Christian Counseling in Richardson, Texas

Your faith can be part of counseling when you want it to be. You can also come without a shared faith or without making faith the focus.

Loving God with our whole selves

In Deuteronomy 6:5, Israel is called to love God with heart, soul, and strength. I take that as an invitation to bring our whole lives into the room: thoughts, emotions, habits, relationships, bodies, hopes, and questions. Faith does not require us to hide pain or pretend to be doing better than we are.

I draw primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). We notice the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that form a pattern, then practice responding more truthfully and intentionally. If faith matters to you, Scripture, prayer, and Christian convictions can inform that work. They are never imposed as a condition of receiving care.

Attention, desire, and daily practice

Matthew 6:21 connects our treasure and our heart. That can open an honest conversation about what has captured our attention and what we are organizing our lives around. 2 Corinthians 4:18 and Colossians 3:2 invite a perspective beyond only what is immediately visible. This is not a demand to ignore real suffering; it is a way to widen our view when fear narrows it.

Romans 13:14 speaks of putting on the Lord Jesus Christ. I often think of that as a daily practice, like getting dressed: choosing what to carry into the day and what habits to stop feeding. Romans 12:2 calls us away from being shaped unthinkingly by the world around us and toward renewal of the mind. We can be honest about human fallenness while holding onto the possibility of change and grace.

CBT as defense and offense

I sometimes describe CBT as both defense and offense in the spiritual life. Defense means recognizing an incoming thought or pressure before it dictates your next move. Offense means practicing the truth, relationships, and actions that support the person you want to become. It is a picture of intentional practice, not a claim that every symptom is a spiritual failure.

Some clients want faith woven throughout our work; others prefer to focus on clinical tools. We can talk about your preferences at the start and revisit them as we go. I welcome people of all backgrounds in Richardson and by telehealth where appropriate.
